Excellency)
Crusader against the worst form
of slavery
The woman, popularly known
as "'Mummy", by anyone

Chief (Mrs.) Amina Titi Atiku
Abubakar, the amiable wife of
Nigeria's Vice President and
The Second Lady of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, was born
in the city of Lagos. She has
been married to Chief Alhaji
Atiku Abubakar, the Vice President
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
for over three decades and blessed
with four children, two girls
and two boys. She is also a
grandmother.
Upon completing college, her
zeal for patriotism and willingness
to serve her country propelled
her to accept a teaching position
at her Alma Mata, the famous
Kaduna Polytechnic. She lectured
there for a decade.
An unrelenting crusader who
believes in professionalism,
Chief (Mrs.) Atiku Abubakar
enrolled at the Scuola International
de Science Turitiche, Roma,
Italy to take a course in Hotel
Management under the auspices
of the World Tourism Organization
with the Italian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs.
While staying in Rome, she
saw many young black girls,
not only Nigerians, walking
the streets half nude. She wondered
what these girls ere doing,
and began asking questions.
She learned that some women
in the society, who called themselves
"madams", had brought
the young girl there to work.
When she asked, "What sort
of work? They said, "prostitution."
As a wife and mother, she thought
to herself that this was "humiliation",
and vowed to someday do something
about it whenever she had a
chance to
She never forgot
that covenant she made with
GOD.
So, in 1999 when her husband

collective mission is to be
in the vanguard for mobilizing
community awareness and action
against human trafficking, child
labor, violent abuse of the
rights of women and children
and the spread of HIV/AIDS here
and abroad.
Her Excellency has counseled
thousands of girls about the
evil of trafficking. WOTCLEF

Her Excellency has launched
an awareness campaign in most

many parents who lost their
children to trafficking were
deceived by people who promised
them that they were going to
train their children and give
them jobs, an education or a
better opportunity. Her Excellency
has promised these parents she
would help them get their children
back.
Her urgent dream is to build
a comprehensive rehabilitation
center that will accommodate

Her Excellency, Mrs. Amina
Titi Atiku Abubakar has emerged
as a national leader there in
efforts to abolish this human
evil. She founded one of the
world's pre-eminent non-governmental
anti-trafficking organizations-
"Women Trafficking &
Child Labour Eradication Foundation"
("WOTCLEF") that has
been unrelenting in its efforts
to care for victims and promote
human trafficking awareness
globally.
Mrs. Abubakar has pioneered
international recognition of
the emerging links between sex
trafficking, child labor abuse,
and the spread of HIV/AIDS.
She was the first private individual
to send a bill to Parliament
that sought stiff penalties
against human traffickers. President
Obasanjo signed the bill into
law on July 14, 2003, making
Nigeria the first West African
country to enact anti-trafficking
legislation. WOTCLEF currently
operates a rehabilitation center
where repatriated young girls
and boys can secure an education
and learn the necessary skills
to gain employment. Mrs. Abubakar
and WOTCLEF have won international
acclaim for their efforts to
heal these young victims of
trafficking and provide them
with the skills to reintegrate
into society.
She travels globally to crusade
against trafficking. Her Excellency
sponsored the African Women's
Conference and an international
women's conference entitled
the "Battle of Hope"
to kick off AIDS. She represents
the British High Commission,
USAIDS, UNICEF, ILO, UNADC,
UNFPA on Human Trafficking issues.

crowned "The First Queen
of Nigerian Youths" for
treading a path where the brave
dread.
She is motivated and encouraged
by her dream of someday seeing
African children freely protected
from abuse and exploitation
and provided with quality educational
opportunities.

Excellency is warmed by her
